Getting to Zacatecas from Overseas

There are one airport near to Zacatecas city, and the main airport of Mexico City

  1. Aeropuerto Internacional de Zacatecas. IATA Code: ZCL
    The International Airport of Zacatecas is located in the outskirts of the city, at approximately 24 kilometers from the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (a $450MXN taxi-ride away). It is a small airport with daily connections from/to Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, USA operated by American Eagle and Volaris.
  2. Mexico City International Airport (also called Benito Juárez International Airport). IATA code: MEX.
    Two terminals. It has connections to all major airports in the world. It is located 602 Km (northwest) from Zacatecas city. The bus terminal Central del Norte is located 8.8 km northwest of the airport, and there are premium night services to Zacatecas at $1000 MXN aprox with the ETN bus line.


Getting to Zacatecas from the Mexico City Airport

There are several ways to reach Zacatecas from the Mexico City Airport (besides taking flight)

  1. From Terminal 1, you have to exit the airport and walk to the Metro ($5 MXN), you will be in the yellow line in the "Terminal Aérea" Station. There are 8 stops towards "Politécnico", your stop is called "Autobuses del Norte". Note: the metro operates from 6 AM on Saturdays, and 7 AM on Sundays, the service stops at midnight.
  2. From Terminal 2, you have to take the "Transporte Interterminales" ($6 MXN) to Metro "Hangares" ($ 5 MXN), you will be in the yellow line in the "Hangares" Station. There are 9 stops towards "Politécnico", your stop is called "Autobuses del Norte". Note: the metro operates from 6 AM on Saturdays, and 7 AM on Sundays, the service stops at midnight. (Note: There aren't many people outside Metro Hangares)
  3. You can also take a Taxi at the airport, or walk a bit and order an Uber/Cabify.
From Central del Norte you can take an 8-10 hours bus service.
  1. Omnibus de México. $1030 MXN. Services: 06:30, 07:30, 08:45, 10:00, 12:30, 14:00, 15:00, 16:45, 21:15, 22:00, 23:00, 23:45.
  2. ETN (Enlaces Terrestres Nacionales). $1190 MXN. Services: 01:30, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 13:45, 18:00, 21:30, 22:15, 22:30, 23:30.

Climate

The climate is temperate and semi-dry. In early July, the average temperature oscillates between the 16 and the 24 Celsius degrees. Visit Yahoo Weather for more details. Currently is unusually rainy for the season, bring an umbrella. If it rains, the nights could be a bit cold for people coming from the Tropics. Bringing a pijama, and a light jacket could be handy.


Visa Information

Permanent residents in Canada, Japan, The United Kingdom, The United States of America or the Schengen countries wishing to travel to Mexico do not require a visa to enter the country as a tourists and business visitors for a 180-day stay and as a visitors in transit for a 30-day stay. Immigration authorities in Mexico will ask for proof of permanent residence and a valid passport (valid for at least six months) on arrival (for more details please visit the official webpage: http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php/page/Paises_Visa).

According to new regulations, it is not necessary to apply for a tourist Mexican visa if you hold a valid tourist visa for entering the United States of America -regardless of your nationality- . Immigration authorities in Mexico will ask for your US visa and a valid passport (valid for at least six months) on arrival.
